The boys surprised Aunt Katri with a chair today. They figured they'd make her one since nobody knows when her furniture will arrive. It could be another month or more and it would be nice to be able to sit in front of the fire. This was the first time the Gnomes ever made and upholstered a chair in their lives! Aunt Katri was SO happy to get a chair, she really did want one.
Gnomey collapsed into the chair after he finished moving it, lol It's nice to have a chair to fall in after working so hard.
I made this chair out of tin foil and covered it in lots of masking tape. I love building stuff out of tin foil, I can make any shape I want and it can be resized at anytime. It's a good alternative for me since I don't
use a scale for making miniatures and just go by eye and not a ruler.
After it was covered in tape I bulked up the arms and the edges with more tin foil and covered in tape again. That was the easy part. I was going to have more progress photos for you but by the time I started the fabric I was just trying to keep from ruining the chair so the camera got forgotten. I had a tough time, upholstery is a tricky thing. I made lots of mistakes!
I used a scrap piece of fabric but ended up not having enough to make the cushion (side note, make sure you have lots of the fabric, you'll be surprised how much you end up using) so I opted for the sheepskin. I think that turned out fine, comfy looking anyway. And the chair itself is surprisingly sturdy! It feels just like a wooden chair. I think the glue and fabric helped solidify it.
Now for a little table to hold the tea...
