My First Needle Felted Gnome

Oh my goodness, I'm in love!
This little gnome turned out better than I thought he would. I started him late last night and actually finished most of him within a couple hours and today I worked on the little details like the ears and the nose.

I've never needle felted before, aside from a fat little Totoro that is round with no real details so this is pretty exciting.

Update May 2019,
A couple years after writing this post I ended up giving him a better set of eyes and calling him Gnomey. I  made him a house to live in. That house grew and grew, you can get a tour of that house in the video posted below.

In 2015-2016 I made 3 more Gnomes  to keep him company.

From left to right:
Aunt Katri. Read all about her here
Ahti (named after my Dad) Read about him here
Annie. More about her and some progress pictures of her and Aunt Katri  here
Gnomey.
Pearl the Snail. I can't remember exactly when I made her but it would have been after the Gnomes. She now lives in New York with a boy named Oliver who also builds miniatures.

  1. Now I want to drop everything else and needle felt something. Co-incidentally, our group is having a needle-felt workshop at the end of the month. I normally don't take part - just take care of the admin side of things - but now....
Your gnome has brightened my day. :-)

  3. Hi Sharon, can you send me directions to do Gnomey? Yours is the best I've seen. I'd love to make him as well as
Some other friends for a soon to be made inside fairy garden. I would love it. Jnolte113@gmail.com

    1. thank you so much, I'm glad you like him. I actually made him in 2013. He was my first and last attempt at a human form. I don't know anything about needle felting, I just did my best as I went. I started with a pipe cleaner frame and wrapped the wool around that then poked it into shape. I don't have the needle felting skills to pass along to anyone. One day if I make another I will take photos of the steps and do my best to explain what I'm doing as I go.

    1. Jeffrey, I was just on facebook and a page I follow shared this tutorial.. the gnomes in the tutorial are quite similar to Gnomey! They were made long before but they also use the pipe cleaner frame. They are cute but you can adjust to make them how you'd like! http://fionaduthie.blogspot.nl/2011/01/love-gnomes.html
